A physician claims these are actual comments from
his patients made while he was performing colonoscopies:
"Take it easy, Doc, you're boldly going where no man has
gone before."
"Can you hear me NOW?"
"Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"
"You know, in Arkansas, we're now legally married."
"Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!"
"If your hand doesn't fit, you must acquit!"
"Hey, Doc, let me know if you find my dignity."
”You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?"
"Could you write me a note for my wife, saying that my head
is not, in fact, up there?"
A man went to the doctor and said, "Doctor,
I've got a problem, but if you're going to treat it, first you've
got to promise not to laugh.
"Of course I won't laugh," the doctor said. "I'm
a professional. In over twenty years I've never laughed at a patient."
"Okay then," the man said, and proceeded to drop his
trousers, revealing the tiniest penis the doctor has ever seen.
Unable to control himself, the doctor fell laughing to the floor.
Ten minutes later he was able to struggle to his feet and regain
his composure. "I'm so sorry," he said. "I don't
know what came over me. On my honor as a doctor and a gentleman,
I promise it won't happen again. Now what seems to be the problem?"
"It's swollen."
Message at the 1994 annual awards dinner given for Forensic Science,
AAFS President Dr Don Harper Mills astounded his audience with
the legal complications of a bizarre death. Here is the story.
On March 23, 1994 the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald
Opus and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound to the head.
Mr.. Opus had jumped from the top of a ten-story building intending
to commit suicide.
He left a note to the effect indicating his despondency. As he
fell past the ninth floor his life was interrupted by a shotgun
blast passing through a window, which killed him instantly. Neither
the shooter nor the decedent was aware that a safety net had been
installed just below the eighth floor level to protect some building
workers and that Ronald Opus would not have been able to complete
his suicide the way he had planned.
"Ordinarily," Dr Mills continued, "A
person who sets out to commit suicide and ultimately succeeds,
even though the mechanism might not be what he intended, is still
defined as committing suicide." That Mr.. Opus was shot on
the way to certain death, but probably would not have been successful
because of the safety net, caused the medical examiner to feel
that he had a homicide on his hands.
In the room on the ninth floor, whence the shotgun
blast emanated was occupied by an elderly man and his wife. They
were arguing vigorously and he was threatening her with a shotgun.
The man was so upset that when he pulled the trigger he completely
missed his wife and the pellets went through the window striking
Mr.. Opus.
When one intends to kill subject "A" but kills subject
"B" in the attempt, one is guilty of the murder of subject
"B. "When confronted with the murder charge the old
man and his wife were both adamant and both said they thought
the shotgun was unloaded. The old man said it was a long-standing
habit to threaten his wife with the unloaded shotgun. He had no
intention to murder her. Therefore the killing of Mr. Opus appeared
to be an accident; that is, if the gun had been accidentally loaded.
The continuing investigation turned up a witness who saw the old
couple's son loading the shotgun about six weeks prior to the
fatal accident. It transpired that the old lady had cut off her
son's financial support and the son, knowing the propensity of
his father to use the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with
the expectation that his father would shoot his mother. Since
the loader of the gun was aware of this, he was guilty of the
murder even though he didn't actually pull the trigger.
The case now becomes one of murder on the part of the son for
the death of Ronald Opus. Now comes the exquisite twist. Further
investigation revealed that the son was, in fact, Ronald Opus.
He had become increasingly despondent over the failure of his
attempt to engineer his mother's murder. This led him to jump
off the ten-story building on March 23rd, only to be killed by
a shotgun blast passing through the ninth story window. The son
had actually murdered himself so the medical examiner closed the
case as a suicide.
A true story from Associated Press, Reported by
Kurt Westervelt.
An 85-year-old man went to his doctor's office to get a sperm
count. The doctor gave the man a jar and said, "Take this
jar home and bring back a semen sample tomorrow."
The next day the 85-year-old man reappeared at the
doctor's office and gave him the jar, which was as clean and empty
as on the previous day. The doctor asked what happened and the
man explained:
"Well, doc, it's like this - First I tried
with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand,
but still nothing. Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with
her right hand, then her left, still nothing. She tried with her
mouth, first with the teeth in, then with her teeth out, and still
nothing. We even called up Arleen, the lady next door and she
tried too, first with both hands, then an armpit and she even
tried squeezin' it between her knees, but still nothing."
The doctor was shocked! "You asked your neighbor?"
The old man replied," Yep. And no matter what
we tried, we still couldn't get the jar open."
A woman in her forties went to a plastic surgeon for a face-lift.
The surgeon told her about a new procedure called "The Knob,"
where a small knob is placed on the back of a woman's head and
can be turned to tighten up her skin to produce the effect of
a brand new face lift. Of course, the woman wanted "The Knob."
Over the course of the years, the woman tightened the knob, and
the effects were wonderful. The woman remained young looking and
vibrant. After fifteen years, the woman returned to the surgeon
with two problems. "All these years, everything has been
working just fine. I've had to turn the knob many times and I've
always loved the results. But now I've developed two annoying
problems: First, I have these terrible bags under my eyes and
the knob won't get rid of them."
The doctor looked at her closely and said, "Those aren't
bags, those are your breasts."
She said, "Well, I guess there's no point in asking about
the goatee."
A cardiac specialist passed away after a long and successful life.
At his funeral, the coffin was placed in front of a huge mockup
of a heart, made up of nearly a thousand flowers. When the pastor
finished with the sermon, and a touching eulogy had been concluded,
and after everyone had paid their respects, the heart-shaped flower
sculpture opened, the coffin was rolled inside, and then the heart
slowly closed - - totally enveloping the deceased physician. Just
then, one of the mourners burst into laughter. The guy next to
him asked, "Why are you laughing?" "I was thinking
about my own funeral," the man replied. "What's so funny
about that?" "I'm a gynecologist!"
There was a case in one hospital's Intensive Care ward where patients
always died in the same bed, on Sunday morning, at about 11 a.m.,
regardless of their medical condition. This puzzled the doctors
and some even thought that it had something to do with the supernatural.
No one could solve the mystery... as to why the deaths occurred
around 11 a.m. on Sundays. So a World-Wide team of experts was
assembled to investigate the cause of the incidents. The next
Sunday morning, a few minutes before 11 a.m., all doctors and
nurses nervously wait outside the ward to see for themselves what
the terrible phenomenon was all about. Some were holding wooden
crosses, prayer books and other holy objects to ward off the evil
spirits. Just when the clock struck 11... Pookie Johnson, The
part-time Sunday sweeper, entered the ward and unplugged the life
support system so that he could use the vacuum cleaner.
First year students at Med School were receiving their first anatomy
class with a real dead human body. They all gathered around the
surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor
started the class by telling them, "In medicine, it is necessary
to have 2 important qualities as a doctor: The first is that you
not be disgusted by anything involving the human body." For
an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger
in the butt of the corpse, withdrew it and stuck it in his mouth.
"Go ahead and do the same thing," he told his students.
The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually
took turns sticking a finger in the butt of the dead body and
sucking on it. When everyone finished, the Professor looked at
them and told them, "The second important quality is observation.
I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now
pay attention."
Joe was a successful lawyer, but as he got older he was increasingly
hampered by incredible headaches. When his career and love life
started to suffer, he sought medical help. After being referred
from one specialist to another, he finally came across an old
country doctor who solved the problem.
"The good news is I can cure your headaches... The bad news
is that it will require castration. You have a very rare condition,
which causes your testicles to press up against the base of your
spine, and the pressure creates one hell of a headache. The only
way to relieve the pressure is to remove the testicles."
Joe was shocked and depressed. He wondered if he had anything
to live for. He couldn't concentrate long enough to answer, but
decided he had no choice but to go under the knife. When he left
the hospital he was without a headache for the first time in 20
years, but he felt like he was missing an important part of himself.
As he walked down the street, he realized that he felt like a
different person. He could make a new beginning and live a new
life. He saw a men's clothing store and thought, "That's
what I need -- a new suit."
He entered the shop and told the salesman, "I'd like a new
suit." The elderly tailor eyed him briefly and said, "Let's
see ... size 44 long."
Joe laughed, "That's right, how did you know?"
"Been in the business 60 years!"
Joe tried on the suit. It fit perfectly.
As Joe admired himself in the mirror, the salesman asked, "How
about a new shirt?"
Joe thought for a moment and then said, "Sure."
The salesman eyed Joe and said, "Let's see... 34 sleeve and
16-and-a-half neck."
Joe was surprised, "That's right, how did you know?"
"Been in the business 60 years!"
Joe tried on the shirt, and it fit perfectly. As Joe adjusted
the collar in the mirror, the salesman asked, "How about
new shoes?" Joe was on a roll and said, "Sure."
The salesman eyed Joe's feet and said, "Let's see.... 9-1/2."
Joe was astonished, "That's right, how did you know?"
"Been in the business 60 years!"
Joe tried on the shoes and they fit perfectly. Joe walked comfortably
around the shop and the salesman asked, "How about some new
underwear?"
Joe thought for a second and said, "Sure."
The salesman stepped back, eyed Joe's waist and said, "Let's
see... size 36."
Joe laughed, "Ah ha! I got you! I've worn size 34 since I
was 18 years old."
The salesman shook his head, "You can't wear a size 34. A
34 underwear would press your testicles up against the base of
your spine and give you one hell of a headache."
